Any combination of Dr. Sward's services can be included in a 50 minute session. A session is sculpted around what your needs are: physical wellbeing, relaxation, pain management, or health and movement education. Dr. Sward has a broad scope of experience working with clients who have various types of arthritis, osteoporosis, cardiovasuclar and pulmonary diseases, cancer in varying stages, orthopedic issues and joint replacements, autoimmune diseases, and attending pain and discomfort. No person has just one diagnosis -- her hollistic approach considers every aspect of your health to maximize improvement in well-being.
You and Dr. Sward will decide together what you need most on any given day. There is no cookie-cutter program and no umbrella advice -- Dr. Sward will prescribe a session that contributes to your health at that moment and towards your longterm goals.
If you have a medical condition that may affect safe participation in an exercise program, your physicians may be asked to provide medical clearance.
Props (blankets, blocks, straps, bolsters) are used to support your body, allowing you to hold each pose for 3-5 minutes. Your body opens gradually through passive stretching. It is particularly helpful relieving chronic stress and pain and complements more active pursuits.
This therapy is adapted from yoga teachings to help individuals facing health challenges of any type. You learn to manage your condition, reduce pain, reduce symptoms, restore balance, and increase vitality. This is an exceptional approach for those requiring a slow and mindful experience or a departure from traditional yoga.
Reiki is a form of hands-on, natural healing that uses Universal Life Force Energy. During a treatment you lie on a massage table, fully clothed, while the reiki practitioner places her hands in specific energy locations. The result is often profound relaxation, calm, and peace on all levels. It has been reported to especially help with anxeity and chronic pain.
Hatha Yoga uses postures (asana) and breath awareness (Pranayama) to develop mental acuity, strength and flexibility, balance, and relaxation. Instruction is individualized to create a sense of energy and well-being.
Weight Loss & Management
This comprehensive session includes nutrition, exercise programming (which may entail any of the above services), and stress reduction. A plan is developed considering your health, goals, and lifestyle. Each session will monitor progress, adapt your personal program to changes, and incorporate any of the above appropriate services.
An exercise program is developed for you after a physical assessment. In safe, positive surroundings, you will be motivated and provided with constant feedback to maximize your strength, flexibility, and balance. Your program will be tailored to your specific goals.
Lifestyle encompasses all of the parts of our lives that effect our health and well being. Besides nutrition, exercise, and/or weight management- work schedules, family commitments, sleep, play, medical concerns, smoking cessation, etc are discussed. We develop a plan to follow to improve your health and overall well-being. Each session, we will monitor progress, adapt to change, and incorporate any of the appropriate services offered.
